Facebook Page Optimization

Log into Facebook.

  1. Go to http://www.facebook.com
  2. Log In if you already have a Facebook profile.

    or

Sign Up If you’re new to Facebook, fill in the boxes with your personal information (not your company information)

This is your personal profile, and it’s used only to identify you on the Facebook platform. Most likely, you are already using your Facebook profile to connect with family and friends. We do not recommend using your personal profile in any digital marketing for your business. Instead, we suggest creating separate professional pages on Facebook.

See below on how to create Facebook pages, optimize them and use Placesign to keep them fresh and relevant.

Create a Facebook Professional Page

On Facebook, your personal profile is about your private life. You determine the privacy settings for this profile, and friends and family members can "friend" your personal Facebook profile. A professional page, however, gives the general public access to you as a professional, and it establishes a social media presence for you and your business. Your customers don't "friend" you on Facebook; they "follow" or "like" your professional Facebook page.

Facebook Create a Page

Now you need to decide whether or not you want to become a local celebrity. If you want to avoid publicly associating yourself with your business, then skip to the next step. Otherwise, follow these instructions to stake your claim as a local celebrity.

  1. Go to http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php, and select the box labeled, "Artist, Band or Public Figure."
  2. Choose a category that best describes you professionally. If nothing seems to fit you well, then consider "Business Person."
  3. Enter a name for your page. This is your stage name, so to speak, which means it should be consistent across the Internet. Don't use Johnny Smith here and John Smith on another site. Choose one and use it everywhere.
  4. As you always do, read the terms and then check the box next to "I agree to Facebook Pages Terms."
  5. Select "Get Started," and Facebook will guide you through the rest of the process.

Create a Facebook Location Page

You now have a personal Facebook profile and a Facebook professional page. Next, you’ll be creating a Facebook page for each of your business locations.

  1. Go back to http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php, and select the box labeled, "Local Business or Place."
  2. Choose a category that best describes your type of business. If nothing seems to fit, then consider "Local Business."
  3. Enter your optimized Place Identity (name, address and phone number) exactly as you created in with the Placesign Web Studio.
  4. Read the terms, and then check the box next to "I agree to Facebook Pages Terms."
  5. Select "Get Started," and Facebook will guide you through the rest of the process.
  6. Repeat this step for each business location.
